Most of my time in the Navy (the first four years) was spent in Texas, aboard the Saratoga, Pax River, and a short time in Memphis at B School. My last two years was with VS-41 and then to VS-37. I was supposed to go to VS-38 but an Aircrew from '37 asked if I would trade him. I did. I didn't make the first CVSG-57 WestPac because I left the Navy just prior to departure. I regret it to this day that I didn't stay in. I feel that I missed out on what you all are reminiscing about now.

I do the web site so it wouldn't be fair of me to say anything about it, would it?

Great Job on this Ali Bubba. Gives everyone a place to meet and look at a lot of pictures from our Golden Years. It was a Happy Day when Aircraft Pic of the Day and Terry McGinnis came across Jack Carson. Almost but not quite as happy as the day Tida Davies came to work at Executive Beechcraft. Jack you have done an outstanding job with your website. The whole site is a thing of beauty and is very moving. Your tribute to your fallen shipmates is very appreciated by those of us left behind. It has been a great joy and pleasure to meet those shipmates of Bob's, who remember him so fondly. He would have loved to be at both reunions, but especially at this 2003 Reunion...there has never been a reunion like it, I am sure. The untiring devotion and work you have put into your web site says a great deal of the wonderful person you are. I commend Terry McGinnis for getting the ball rolling and for having the fortitude to make his dream come true, of seeing the Hornet once more, and getting together with his old shipmates. I especially thank him for inviting the Sennetts to partake in the original reunion...we will never forget it or the warm stories we heard about our loved one. God Bless you and yours and keep you well. The Sennetts are deeply grateful to all of Bob's shipmates, who shared with us their experiences and some of their sea stories when they were on cruises, both in the 63-64 cruise and the 65-66 cruise. Another particular shipmate we have made one of the family is Conrad Dietz. Bob spoke of him a great deal and also of Jim Lightfoot and Jim Lynch. You are all terrific and I will never forget any of you. Love you All. Lucy

I HAD MANY MEMORIES OF THE 63 AND THE 65 CRUISES. DIDNT GET TO GO TO DOWN UNDER ON IN 66. REINLISTED AND LEFT THE SHIP IN JAN FOR BARBERS POINT, HAWAII. WISH MANY TIMES THAT I HAD LISTENED TO MY CHIEF, WILLETT AND JUST EXTENDED FOR THE CRUISE. STAYED IN THE VS COUNTRY THEN PUSHED BOOTS FOR 4 YRS BEFORE FINISHING UP ON USS NIMITZ AND WAS GLAD TO SEE NORFOLK IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROW. WAS IN THE MOVIE FILMED ABOARD WITH KIRK DOUGLAS, KATHERN ROSS, AND OTHERS. THE MOVIE IS "THE FINAL COUNTDOWN". KIRK CAME TO MY LAST REINLISTMENT.

I served with VS37 from Feb. 1954 to June 1955 following completion of AT"A" training at Millington, Tenn. I flew as an ECM operator on AF's. My other crewmembers were Lt. St. Clair Smith and Dick Mabrey-AT2. Our squadron was initialy based at NAS Los Alamitos and subsequently txferred to North Island in the summer of 53. Prior to that we had gone on a short cruise to the SeaFair in Seattle on the Badoeng Strait-CVE-116. This was my introduction to tailhook landings. We boarded the Princeton that fall for our overseas cruise. This was the last one for AF's. The other squadron on board had S2F's. Wave of the future. We operated between Yokosuka and Okinawa; from Atsugi for a few weeks and spent a couple of weeks in Hong Kong. It was a great cruise.

The site is outstanding! I am very glad the current members of VS-35 were able to support the 2003 reunion. All of the Blue Wolves appreciate the great Americans who had the watch before us. The tradition of excellence and camaraderie displayed by CVSG-57 give us a great example to follow. FLY NAVY! CDR Skip "Loose" Lussier Commanding Officer, VS-35

After bootcamp San Diego RTC 1960-023 and Tweet 'A School' plus airborne 'CW operator C School' in Millington, TN, I joined the squadron in April, 1961, NAS Los Alamitos. Commander W. L. Landreth was CO and I think Commander Mann was the XO. At Los Al, I remember the 'Rogues Gallery' pictures lining the passageway of the wooden squadron office building. These were pictures of the Japanese guards that Cdr Mann had endured as a WW II POW. I was impressed since I had spent my childhood during WW II in Temple, TX, among the many vet's of that war. I have very livid memories of those times. Consequently, those memories were never distant in my mind when VS-37 deployed aboard the USS Hornet visiting Pearl Harbor and the many Japanese ports in 1962. To this day I feel honored to have been in the presence of many of these WW II and Korea Naval Air Heroes as a shipmate and aircrewman of VS-37. Many, officiers and enlisted, went on to serve in Vietnam and other conflicts further distinguishing themselves in the service of their country. The last two reunions have permitted me once again to stand with pride among many of these shipmates.
